Caption Writing — Say It in 30 Words
The caption is not a description of the photo. It’s the part the photo can’t show — the weave, the place, the occasion, the story. Here’s how to write it.
The Concept
The caption is not a description of the photo. It’s what the photo can’t show.
Most fashion captions say what the picture already says — “beautiful red saree”. The customer can see that. What she can’t see is the fabric, the technique, the region, the occasion it’s for, the karigar’s skill. That’s what your caption is for. The 30-word formula: line 1 is what + where (“Bagru hand-block print, cotton, from Rajasthan”). Line 2 is the story or occasion (“Made for everyday wear — office, brunch, college”). Line 3 is a styling note or call to action. Three lines, 30 words, every caption. Four styles to rotate — product-led, story-led, occasion-led, technique-led. Don’t use the same one every time.
Line 1 + Line 2 + Line 3
= 30 words, that’s it
What + Where, Story or Occasion, Styling.

Your Brand Edge
The caption’s job is to make her stop scrolling AND give her something to repeat to her friend. “Hand-block printed Bagru cotton, made in Rajasthan, ₹2,499” is one repeatable line. “Beautiful saree for festive occasions” is not. Specifics travel — she’ll tell her sister “Bagru cotton”, not “beautiful saree”. Use the 30-word formula on every feed post. Save the 80-word version for a launch.
“Bagru hand-block print, cotton, Rajasthan — ₹2,499. Made for everyday wear: office, brunch, college. Style with silver jhumkas + a cotton dupatta knot. DM ‘BAGRU’ for sizes available. 📍”
💡
Remember this always: Captions are 30 words, not 200. Lead with what + where. Don’t describe what the photo already shows. Rotate four styles — product, story, occasion, technique — so your feed doesn’t sound repetitive. Specifics are what your customer repeats.
