Fabric weight matters

WEEK 1 · FABRIC FOUNDATIONS

What is GSM?
And Why Does It Matter?

The number that tells you everything about a fabric.

The Concept
GSM = Grams Per Square Metre It is the weight of one square metre of fabric. This single number tells you whether a fabric is light and airy or rich and heavy — before you even touch it.
One square metre of fabric, weighed in grams
= GSM
Light GSM = Summer · Heavy GSM = Winter & Weddings

How to Use This in Your Store

Your Brand Edge
When a customer asks "which saree is better for summer?" — don't just say "this light one." Name the number. It turns a vague suggestion into expert guidance that customers trust, remember, and share with friends.
"This Chanderi is 100 GSM — it's designed to be sheer and airy, almost like wearing air. Your customer will stay comfortable even at an outdoor June wedding. The Kanjivaram at 350 GSM is stunning, but that one belongs in the cooler months or an indoor ceremony."
💡
Remember this always: Higher GSM = heavier, warmer, more opaque. Lower GSM = lighter, airier, more sheer. One number gives your customer the full picture — use it every time you describe a piece in your collection.
