Identifying Quality — The 5 Tells of Real Craft
Handfeel. Weight. Finish. Edge. Back-of-fabric. Quality leaves marks in all five places — you just have to know where to look.
The Concept
Quality = how the maker spent time on the parts you don’t see at first glance.
Real craft quality is not one big sign — it’s five small ones. The cheap version cuts corners on the back of the fabric, the edge finishing, the weight of the yarn. The real one spends time exactly there. The trained eye doesn’t need to be fancy — she just knows the 5 places to check. Once you learn them, every piece tells you its quality story in under a minute. This is the literacy that lets you describe a saree on a customer DM with confidence: “ye palla dekho, edges finished hain, back side bhi neat hai, weight bhi proper hai.”
Handfeel + Weight + Finish + Edge + Back
= 5 Quality Tells

How to Use This in Your Store
Your Brand Edge
When a customer asks “is this real craft?”, don’t answer with a sentence. Walk her through the 5 tells. Touch, weight, finish, edge, back. Each one is 10 seconds. By the end she has done the check herself — not just heard your word for it. That’s how an MRP starts to make sense to her: not because you said so, but because she felt it.
“Didi ek minute — ye 5 cheez check kariye. Handfeel kaisi hai, weight kaisi hai, edges kaisi finished hain, palla kaisi hai, aur ulta karke back side dekho. Real craft har jagah neat dikhega. Yeh hi reason hai ki MRP itna hai — karigar ne har detail pe time diya hai.”

Remember this always: Quality shows in 5 places — handfeel, weight, finish, edge, and back. The cheap version cuts corners exactly where the real one spends time. Learn the 5 checks once and every saree tells you its story in under a minute.
